United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta - Disaster Response
Disaster Response

As history has shown us, there is little we can do to predict when a disaster will strike, or anticipate the effect it will have on our community. United Way has been involved in disaster recovery for many years, even before Hurricane Katrina. Beginning in 1994 with middle Georgia flooding, in 2001 with 9/11, in 2004 with the Cobb flooding, in 2007 and 2008 with the Americus and Atlanta Tornadoes and now in 2009, United Way is responding to the devastation caused by the recent flooding in metro Atlanta.

    Why are we involved?

    • This is what we do
    • The community looks to United Way for unmet human needs
    • United Way has multiple resources available through 2-1-1, relationships with community organizations, corporations, foundations and volunteers

Learn how to prepare for a disaster.
